Freiburg lies at the foot of the Black Forest, where Germany, Switzerland and France meet. The "Südbaden" and the neighbouring Alsace regions are popular holiday destinations and the quality of the restaurants on both sides of the Upper Rhine is renowned. Freiburg itself is a university town and the local administrative centre, with a population of about 220,000. The famous Freiburg Minster dominates the town, with its 116 metre tower, which dates from the 14th century.
